Lowell street work starts

The City of Lowell recently announced that it will start repairing streets throughout the city, weather permitting.

Indus Inc., formerly called Sealcoating Inc., has won the contract for the road repair, which consists of sealing cracks in the pavement. This process has three steps: crews will clean and rout the cracks, and then apply sealant to them. The streets that will have the work performed have already been selected, and the work will be done as budget, weather, and time allow.

City officials understand that having traffic patterns disrupted can be annoying. Drivers in general should expect some delays and prepare for them. If a driver is unable to avoid a work area, he or she should watch for workers, as well as moving equipment, and be ready to stop if necessary. They should proceed down a detour or through a construction zone slowly. Police will be on hand to direct traffic, and the city will post Signs. Officials in this situation can use poster printing to create the signs they need.

City officials say the work is being done to maintain and improve the condition of Lowell's streets, and officials of the Department of Public Works/Engineering Division encourage anyone who is concerned about the work, or has any questions, to contact the DPW/Engineering office, 978-674-4070.

The work will probably take about one month, with crews typically working from 7.00 am until 5.00 pm.
