Gary Mullen & The Works have been touring with their recreation of Queen performances since 2008. The impetus for the group was Mullen's victory in the UK television program “Stars in Their Eyes,” on which he impersonated Mercury. Public reaction to Mullen's performance was huge, creating a demand for him to continue impersonating the singer, and leading him to create “One Night of Queen.”
During these performances, he and The Works reproduce Queen concerts precisely, including using a lighting rig that is an exact copy of one Queen used on their tour during the early-to-mid 1980s.
The musicians who make up The Works are Jon Halliwell, David Brockett, Billy Moffat, and Malcolm Gentles, all of whom have thriving careers of their own. A review of a live performance of the tribute group gave them perhaps the best of all compliments, saying:
“Last night I would probably have believed that the band performing were the real Queen and that Mullen was the real Freddie Mercury if I had not been aware that he died in 1991.”
“One Night of Queen” is scheduled for April 16, at 7:30 pm, at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, although it would be wise to check regularly for updates, with many events currently being postpone due to the coronavirus outbreak. Organizers who want to publicize events like this have poster printing at their disposal to create attractive advertising.
