This May, the Annual Points of Light Floating Lantern Celebration will take place in Lowell, which is a spring festival celebrating renewal, unity, and the diversity of the Lowell community.
In many cultures around the world, paper lanterns are used in celebration, reflection, and remembrance, such as floating lanterns in rivers to memorize loved ones or to celebrate the passing of seasons. To showcase its multicultural societal fabric, Lowell holds the Points of Light Festival each year where the diverse music, food, and traditions of the community come together. The key component of the festival is the ceremonial floating of personalized paper lanterns that community members release into the Western Canal.
In the days before the event, participants will decorate the lanterns with personal messages, thoughts, art, and memorials. During the festival but before the lantern launching, local vendors will be selling traditional foods from various cultures that call Lowell home, and there will also be music and dance performances.
Community events like this will often offer sponsorship packages to local businesses wishing to support the event. These packages may offer businesses the chance to display their logo during the event in exchange for financially supporting it, so they may look for Logo Design services beforehand.
The Points of Light Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 3. The festival will take place at Ecumenical Plaza, located between St. Patrick’s Church and Holy Trinity Church.
