This October, UMass Lowell Innovation Hub will host the Patenting Strategies for Entrepreneurs Seminar for local entrepreneurs to hone their patenting skills.
UMass Lowell Innovation Hub is a premier coworking space designed to give local start-ups access to the tools and resources of a research university at an affordable price point. The Innovation Hub often organizes educational workshops and forums for its members, such as September’s patenting event. The seminar will be led by expert lawyers from the intellectual property law firm Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, P.C.
The patenting strategies event will teach start-up entrepreneurs how to effectively protect their innovations by demystifying the patent process. Entrepreneurs will learn how their can calculate costs in order to afford a patent strategy while balancing the various other expenses start-ups inevitably incur. Topics to be discussed include the timing of filling out a patent application and how to get a patent instigated early on, deciding which innovation should be patented first, and how to take precautions when working with third parties.
