Next month, the Lowell Folk Festival will return for another year of showcasing traditional folk music, culture, and arts of not just the New England region, but the entire world.
Always free and open to all, the Lowell Folk Festival is the second-largest and longest-running locally-operated folk festival in the country, with only Seattle's Northwest Folklife Festival being a bigger event. Both festivals, among several others across the country, are offshoots of the National Folk Festival, founded in 1934. Lowell hosted the national version for three years in the late 1980s, and then founded the Lowell Folk Festival in 1990.
The festival celebrates the many folk traditions from a multitude of cultures, which include traditional artisan works, cultural practices and performances, and a variety of cuisines. This year’s performers will include Cecilia from Montreal, Canada; Crooked Road Revival from Galax Virginia; Solas from Chicago, Illinois; and Yeison Landero from Bolívar, Colombia.

The Lowel Folk Festival will be held July 25 through July 27. It will take place at 246 Market Street.
