Fall semester brings many milestones to UMass Lowell

UMass Lowell recently welcomed its new incoming freshman class, starting the new academic year with several new buildings and record enrollment.

For the first time in its history, UMass Lowell will reach a total enrollment of 18,000 students. This represents a growth of 6,300 students over the last decade, with each year of incoming students having higher SAT scores and rising average high-school GPAs.

At its convocation earlier this month, over 3,200 were welcomed to the university. Several new academic programs were introduced this fall, including a bachelor’s degree in education, and the 14th new property was added. This is the new River Hawk Village residential complex, which is helping the university to reach its goal of having half of all students living on campus by 2020. An opening ceremony for this campus was held just after convocation.

The University Suites also recently became home just for Honors College students. This year there are 1,600 total honors students, 660 of whom are new transfers and freshmen.

This fall the new Pulichino Tong Business Center becomes the home for the Manning School of Business for the first time. It is a state-of-the-art academic building.
