Lowell pottery enthusiasts interested in learning new techniques should note that the Pottery Mill Clay Studio is hosting its Screen Printing on Clay class in February.
The Pottery Mill Clay Studio is a local pottery workshop and event space that offers the community hand building and pottery wheel classes. Next month’s class will focus on how to utilize screen printing techniques in pottery projects. Screen printing is a technique that uses ink pressed through a stenciled mesh screen to make a printed design. This process is usually used in fabrics, such as when printing logo designs onto a T-shirt, but it can also be used in ceramic decoration.
The class will go over the basics of screen printing, utilizing entry-level products and standard pottery equipment. Participants should have some beginner to intermediate knowledge of general pottery processes and techniques. Students will learn how to use the underglaze method to create stencils and will learn how to both Print on slabs that will later become 3D Forms, and print on pre-existing 3D forms. Most supplies will be provided, but attendees will need to bring their own bisqueware and leather-hard greenware.
The class is scheduled for Sunday, February 7, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Tickets are $112 and can be purchase on Eventbrite.com. The venue address is 325 Chelmsford Street, Lowell.
