The ‘Artful Age’ is running now, featuring work put together under the tutelage of Pamela Wamala and Linda B. Dunn.
Wamala and Dunn have been working closely together for almost 10 years, directing classes in art at locations such as rehab facilities, continuing care facilities, and senior centers. The exhibit features works from these older artists, who have used distinctive textures and rich colors to create joyful art.
According to Dunn:
“[Art] reawakens old interests and sparks new ones. It activates time and gives the moment meaning.”
She adds that it is not uncommon for someone to become interested in one artistic activity and then find themselves drawn to others.
Some of the artists represented in the show have been painting all their lives, while others have only recently discovered the fun of putting paint on canvas. One student said, when they started painting:
“[We couldn’t] draw a straight line, Now we can paint, and we know that circles are more fun.”
Artful Age runs through July 29, and further information is available on the Loading Dock's website. Organizers of events like this often use flyer printing to call attention to the occasion.
