Two properties in Foxborough have been recognized by the Foxboro Historical Commission with Preservation Awards.
The two properties are Station One and 22 Prospect Street. Such awards are often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
Station One on School Street was a brick fire station, built in 1924, and opened in March 1925. It was considered the most up-to-date and modern fire station in this part of New England at the time.
The building was vacated by the Fire Department in 2008 when it moved to the new Municipal Safety Building and remained vacant for over 10 years. The Massachusetts Historical Commission was looking for an adaptive reuse of the building rather than demolishing it. Douglas A. King Builders, Inc. of North Easton put in a bid and was awarded the project.
Douglas A. King restored the brick structure and the bell tower and made some modifications to promote a venue serving lunch and dinner with a bar, which contributed to revitalizing the downtown.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Ruest and Jeremy Jenkins own the Queen Anne cottage at 22 Prospect Street. Charles Young, whose family had a business in straw goods dyeing and bleaching, built the house in 1986. The house was later upgraded to include a wrap-around porch, which is expected to preserve it for many years to come.
