Foxborough to hold town-wide collection of hazardous waste

Hazardous Waste Day will be held for Foxborough residents next month at the Department of Public Works Highway Garage on Elm Street.

Proof of residency in the town will be required with a limit of five gallons or 45 pounds. Among the accepted items are arts and crafts supplies; fluorescent bulbs; solvents, stains, and varnishes, oil-based paints; and various kinds of cleaners.

Items that can be included in regular trash, such as empty aerosol cans, alkaline batteries, and solidified latex paint will not be accepted. Other items that will not be accepted include medical waste, propane tanks, commercial waste, and asbestos and asbestos products.

Before dropping off items, people need to do the following:

• bring proof of residency in Foxborough
• bring items in original containers with lids and caps tightened
• pack in sturdy upright containers and pad with newspaper
• sort and pack separately items such as household cleaners, oil paint, and pesticides.

On arrival on the day of event, people need to remain in their vehicles and follow instructions from the staff. The staff will remove all items from vehicles.

Local Print shops can help provide more details about acceptable items and procedures at such events with Flyers, Booklets, and other printed materials.

Hazardous Waste Day will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday May 9.
