Amy Muldowney has been hired by the school administrators of Foxborough to be the new community wellness coordinator.
Muldowney will focus on addressing the mental health challenges faced by students and will serve as a liaison between school counselors, at-risk families, and service agencies based in the community. Muldowney is a licensed mental health counselor and previously worked at the Burrell School as an adjustment counselor.
Amy Berdos, superintendent of the Foxborough schools, said a grant established by Brigham and Women’s Hospital is funding the position and will provide a range of mental health resources to families. This will include a partnership with the referral service of INTERFACE at William James College in Newton, which has programs in behavioral health, counseling, and psychology.
Muldowney also plans to offer workshops on a monthly basis for parents and the public and to work with students from the middle and high schools and their families to develop topics for these workshops. Such schools can work with local Print shops to create Flyers and other printed materials with more information once the topics and the dates of the workshops are determined.
Berdos said Muldowney is providing valuable insights on emotional and social learning competencies for the staff at the schools. She stressed the importance of parents having such resources upon which to draw.
