A grant of $650,000 has been awarded to the town of Foxborough for an affordable housing project.
The project will convert the former Foxborough State Hospital on Walnut Street. It will be developed in three phases and will ultimately provide 200 rental homes on the property, which is owned by the housing authority of Foxborough.
There will be 20 units built, which will be affordable for those earning less than 30 percent of the median income in the area, and 60 units for those earning 60 percent of the annual median income in the area, as the second phase of the project. A New England Colonial style will be the design of the building, to blend in with the architecture of the town.
It will have a village green and two elevators. Additional amenities will include a fitness center, pickle ball, and bocce courts. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about the features and amenities of such projects.
Ed Augustus, State Housing Secretary, said that it is often difficult for the older population in a community in which they grew up to remain in the community, which is an advantage of this project. As there is a demand and lack of affordable housing for seniors in the town, the zooming board approved the project to bypass many of the zoning laws in the community.
