The Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) has awarded Foxborough Fire and Rescue Internationally Accredited Agency status for meeting its criteria for its voluntary accreditation and self-assessment program.
Foxborough Fire and Rescue is the first municipal agency in Massachusetts and the third in New England to achieve this prestigious and hard-earned status. It is now one of 123 municipal agencies in the United States that are nationally accredited and rated ISO 1. Announcements of such achievements are often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
There are several requirements that need to be fulfilled for the self-assessment program. These include completing a comprehensive community risk assessment, a community-driven strategic plan, and an adopted standard of cover. There were 250 individual performance indicators to which staff responded, and these covered all aspects of the fire department.
Once the department completed the self-assessment, a team of four peer assessors from across the United States visited the department and verified what had been completed. An in-depth report of their findings was prepared by this team, which was then reviewed by the CFAI. This was followed by a meeting in Florida with representatives from the fire department at which they were questioned to validate their responses and interviewed about additional topics.
The department was awarded Internationally Accredited Agency status unanimously by the Commission.
