What was once a church on Main Street has been agreed to be purchased by the town of Foxborough. The purchase also included 3.65 acres of land.
Paige Duncan, Town Manager of Foxborough, expressed her thrill in acquiring this church, which will become the Community Center for the town. Duncan added that this will be a fresh start for the building and reflects the commitment of the town to creating a center for people of all ages that will serve as a space for recreation, learning, and connection in the community.
The church spans 17,000 square feet and will be the home for Veteran’s Services, the Council on Aging, and the Recreation Department. The building also offers offices, a small gymnasium, a performance hall, and many rooms for programming, and is set on land which features many nature trails.
Planned for the space are needed repairs, aesthetic enhancements, and the installation of an elevator so that the building will be accessible for all residents of the community. There will be a town-wide vote on Monday, May 6 for approval of financing the purchase followed by final approval on Monday, May 13 at a town meeting. The closing date on the building is expected to be Thursday, August 1, after which renovations can begin.
