Employees of the Town of Foxboro, summoned to serve in the military forces while in the employ of the Town, may have financial as well as moral support of their employer beginning next month.
Foxboro Selectmen voted 100 per cent in favour of an article that would make it mandatory to use municipal coffers to pay the basic salary of any employee of the town while away on military duty. The article will be one of many going to a town vote at a meeting in Foxboro next month.
The only exception listed in the article is if an employee serves with the Armed Forces and is absent on a short term basis while taking part on routine training exercises.
This could be a precedent setting move for other Foxboro employers, including Print companies, to provide employment benefits of this type to active service men and women.
The benefit of the measure is to help employees who are activated to military duty keep their homes from potential foreclosure or to provide financial support to prevent any other hardship. The measure was endorsed whole heartedly by Michael Johns, Veteran Agent for Foxboro.
This article and others will be put on the May 14 warrant with 29 other articles, one of which is a new employment contract for those working in the Foxboro library. Selectmen will still need to vote on articles for other town service employment contracts, such as police and fire fighters.
