What's Happening in Devens, MA…

Speaker on war and peace comes to Devens museum

The Fort Devens Museum will be featuring a guest speaker this month who will discuss his thoughts on the “waging of war and pursuing peace” which have affected human civilization from the ancient to the most recent times.

The speaker will be William Britton, a teacher at St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers. Britton will examine the phenomenon of war from the perspectives of different people, given his experience as a commander of a Marine Corps tank-company in Vietnam, a writer, and a teacher. Poster printing can be used to create displays to be posted throughout the community to inform people of such talks.

Britton will talk about those who fight on both sides of war, civilians who may get caught within an area of fighting, those friends and families who may lose a loved one because of war, and the military and political leaders who decide to enter a war and when to declare peace.

The talk will begin at 1:00 pm this Saturday, February 16 at the museum, which is on the third floor of 94 Jackson Road. Everyone is welcome to attend the talk, for which there is no charge, but donations will be greatly appreciated.

After the talk, people can tour the museum to view the current exhibits that contain documents, photographs, and artifacts of the history from 1917 to the present day.
