What's Happening in Devens, MA…

Recycling facility in Devens acquired by national company

Devens Recycling, a construction and demolition waste transfer and recycling facility, has been acquired by Republic Services.

Devens Recycling is a facility with an area of 90,000 square feet on 11 acres in what was once the military base at Fort Devens. It is an enclosed state-of-the-art construction and demolition transfer station, the largest in country, and offers container rental services. Its location gives it direct access to a railroad line.

Republic currently operates transfer stations in Peabody and the Roxbury neighborhood in Boston, but neither has direct access to a rail line. Republic plans to be able to shift material from these collection and transfer operations to this facility which will enable the company to save time on waiting lines for transfer to other facilities. Another benefit of this purchase for Republic is that it enables the potential handling more than 500 tons per day of municipal solid waste, or to look to have an overall higher capacity cap.

New printed materials are often needed for such acquisitions, which may include the need to hire stationery printers.

This purchase could also position the company for additional mergers and acquisitions in the upcoming years. The company is preparing for a year of strong investment in the range of $200m. The purchase price of Devens Recycling was not disclosed.
