The Prescott Building Renovation Ad hoc Committee recently met in Lancaster, just a short distance from Devens, to discuss the progress of the Prescott Building.
Mary Bulso, Prescott Project Manager, provided an update to the committee in an afternoon meeting at a selectmen committee later that day.
Design plans were only 75% complete when special town meeting voted to approve $1.293m in early February for the project, and construction documents are now being completed. Bulso explained that the project is at a point where no changes can be made to the design if it is to be put out to bid on schedule.
Bidding will be done during May and June. Specific parts of the building renovations, such as plaster and electrical work, will be bid on by subcontractors. Following this, the general contractors will select from those to put together their bids for the overall project.
Once the final bids have been collected, references and qualifications of general and subcontractors will be checked by project officials before they award the bid on the renovation work.
Construction is expected to begin in early August and completed by next spring.
Selectmen Chairman Stan Starr said that everyone in Lancaster will be kept abreast of the progress of the construction. The Selectmen might want to work with a newsletter printing company to update residents on the projects.
