New housing community for seniors underway
Baker Brook Apartments, a housing development with 70 units for seniors, is currently under construction in Lunenburg. Older residents of Devens might consider moving to this development once it is completed.
The project will span four acres and feature eight two-bedroom units and 62 one-bedroom units. Each unit will have a balcony or patio, air conditioning, and a fully equipped kitchen with Energy Star appliances. Other amenities will include a common laundry on each floor, a fitness area, a media room, a gathering room with a kitchenette, and sitting rooms. There will be a part-time resident services coordinator made possible through Montachusett Home Care Corp.

The development is for 55 years of age and older and who earn 80% or less of the area median income (AMI). There will be eight units for seniors whose income is 30% or less of the AMI and 48 units reserved for those earn 60% or less of the AMI. There will be seven units reserved for those who were once homeless.
The general partner for the project is Great Bridge Properties, based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire while Boston Capital is providing close to $9.5m in low-income housing tax credit equity for the project.
