Medicine manufacturing space to be developed in Devens
The multiple-year contract of Azzur Cleanrooms on Demand (COD) and Editas Medicine, Inc. has been expanded help support the scaling of the cell therapy medicine EDIT-301.
The experimental medicine is under investigation for transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia and the treatment of sickle cell disease from approval to commercialization. The contract includes compliant labs and classroom space at the Azzur COD site here in Devens. Azzur’s services have been utilized by Editas Medicine for manufacturing in the pre-clinical and early phase clinical activities since 2020.
The groundbreaking of the site in Devens was recently celebrated by the Azzur Group, marking its third COD facility in the great Boston area. Banner printing can be used at such sites to announce important developments in the community.
Senior Vice President of Operations at Editas Medicine, Harry Gill, said that Azzur COD has been a reliable and trusted partner of his company for close to three years and has provided the company with the compliant and dedicated space needed to support the quality management and clinical manufacturing necessary to produce medicine. Chief Innovation Officer of Azzur Group, Ravi Samavedam, added that the partnership with Editas Medicine is a great example of how the industry can come together to achieve a common goal.
The COD site is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024.
