Maynard to offer grants supporting towns cultural activities

The Maynard Cultural Council is planning to offer $6,300 in grants in amounts ranging from $50 to $1,500 each for the support of local humanities, science, and art programs.

Applicants for such grants must reside or be located in the state, so those in Devens may be interested. Eligible applicants for the grants include non-profits, schools, agencies, and individuals. Such applicants can work with print shops to help them prepare their materials.

Richard Pepin, a spokesperson from the Council, said that a variety of artistic activities and projects in Maynard can be supported with these grants. He added that some ideas for such projects include workshops, lectures, performances in schools, and short-term artist residencies.

As the 150th anniversary of Maynard is next year, Pepin said that projects supporting the town’s sesquicentennial are particularly welcomed. Projects to have been previously funded by the Council include the Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the Maynard Fine Arts Theatre, free summer concerts at Memorial Park, and Maynard Earth Day 2019.

The Maynard Cultural Council is one of 329 cultural councils across the Commonwealth and is supported by funding from the state legislature through the Mass Cultural Council.

For applications to be accepted, the projects or activities need to take place between January 1 and December 31 of next year.
