Home near Devens revamped for veterans

The Disabled American Veterans Department of Massachusetts, a group of volunteers, is currently renovating a home for veterans in Leominster.

This might be of interest to veterans in nearby Devens looking for new housing options. More information about the features and amenities of the property can be outlined with flyer printing.

The property is 130 years old and has fallen into disrepair. Director of the Disabled Veterans, Kayla Valila, said that already $250,000 has been spent on the property towards repairs for the nine bedrooms and five bathrooms. The organization is a non-profit funded by grants and donations, and has partnered with Home Depot to do the work.

Operations manager for Home Deport Leominster, Nick Mulcahy, said that Home Depot has provided materials for a new roof and given the organization a water heater. He added that some work is being done on the furnace and other items needed to get the home ready for residents to move in. Those who are volunteering for this project are employees of Home Depot from stores in the area.

Valia said the volunteers are fulfilling promises made to the veterans so they can live with respect and dignity. She added that having pride in their homes is important to them.

It is expected that the home will be completed by Monday, July 4 for 15 veterans to move in.
