Historic home to offer holiday tour
The Leominster Historical Society will be offering a house tour of the historic Drake House next month. Residents of Devens will not want to miss this special event.
Events such as this one are often made known to those in town and the surrounding areas through poster printing.
The event will include a tour of the house and of the exhibits. Mayor Mazzarella will be on hand to talk with guests and offer roasted chestnuts, along with free coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies. There will also be a sale of holiday greenery and wreaths, the proceeds of which will benefit the Energy Fund of the Mayor. Finally, the first 10 students who attend the tour and have an essay on abolition and the Underground Railroad will receive a copy of “Resolve and Rescue, The True Story of Frances Drake and the Antislavery Movement.”
The tour is sponsored by the Leominster Historical Society, the office of the mayor, and the Leominster Office of Emergency Management.
The Drake House was the home of abolitionists Frances and Jonathan Drake who assisted slaves in their flight to freedom. The home was purchased by the city of Leominster with the help of the Leominster Historical Society and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The house tour will be held on Saturday, December 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
