Farm in Devens area to gold holiday dinner

The Herb Lyceum at Gilson’s on Main Street in Groton will be holding a celebratory holiday dinner at the farm later this week. Residents of nearby Devens will not want to miss this special holiday delight.

Although the harvest season is over, the Lyceum enjoys serving these meals so that guests can savor the familiar flavors of the season. The Lyceum has a cozy carriage house for family and friends to gather and celebrate the season.

The dinner is a five-course meal starting with a tempura squash crepe, followed by a woodfired chestnut soup, and then roasted heirloom pears. Guests have a choice of a chicken or steak dish for the main entrée. Dessert will be bûche de Noël, or a Yule log as it is commonly known. Such farms can turn to local printing services to help print festive menus to add to the holiday atmosphere.

The Lyceum has a liquor license, so guests no longer need to bring their own alcoholic beverages. Beverages include beer, wine, and a few non-alcoholic items.

The Herb Lyceum is a working farm of four acres that has been operated by the Gilson family since the 1800s. The current head of the household, David Gilson, grows a variety of flowers, herbs, and produce, and manages the farm so that events can be held with a cozy and relaxed environment.

The dinner will be held beginning at 5:00 pm this Thursday, December 22.
