The annual open house Armed Forces Day celebration at the Fort Devens Museum is coming up later this month. There will be three guest speakers talking about restoring something from the past.
One speaker will be Jack Wilson, an army veteran, who will discuss how the remains of soldiers from the United States declared missing in action in Europe during World War II were found and identified. He was involved in the process and will talk about his travels across the country and overseas, during which time he met with people who lost loved ones during the war and how he advised families about the process.
Ed Klekowski will talk about the time from August 1914 to April 1917 during which the United States was not officially involved in the war, but there were Americans who were. He and his wife, Libby, have written several nonfiction Books about the period, as well as a new novel, and several documentaries for television.
George Kingston, a retired engineering manager and author of historical biographies, will discuss how Fred Ley and his company build Fort Devens.
The celebration will be held from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm this Saturday, May 20. The museum might benefit from the assistance of a banner printing company to promote this celebration to residents of the community.
