A graduation ceremony was recently held at the Devens campus of Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) when 10 students received their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificates.
This was a special free program that combined classes of English for Speakers of Other Languages with the program, and these were the first set of students to complete the new program.

James Vander Hooven, President of MWCC, commented that this is a highly committed and focused group of individuals who will be able to help people and work with them to ensure they feel better. He expressed his pride in the students and his pleasure to be at the graduation ceremony.
The program was a rigorous one as the students not only prepared for CNA training, but for two nights a week also took English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes. Once they take the state exam and pass it, they will be able to work in the community.
The Adult Education and Training Department of MWCC runs the program at the college’s Devens campus in cooperation with the College Workforce Development Office. The instruction in the English has been designed in the context of the healthcare field, along with training to prepare the students for the state CNA exam.
