Certificates of completion for a course on Plastics Technology and OSHA 30 (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) were recently given out to West Boylston House of Correction inmates during a graduation ceremony.
The program is run by Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) partnering with the Sheriff’s Office of Worcester County.
The course is the same one taking place at the Devens campus of the college. Gretchen Ingvason designed the program and Michael Hurley taught the course. It includes 78 hours of class instruction modified for the setting. Courses such as this one often turn to Print shops for the creation of instructional materials.
Lew Evangelidis, Worcester County Sheriff, said at the ceremony that although everyone supported the graduates and believed in them, they were the ones who did the hard work. This training will help them to find jobs and provide a new beginning for them.
Among those at the ceremony were nine graduates who will now have the skills needed for jobs in the manufacturing industry. This course was made possible by a grant given to the Worcester County House of Correction.
President of MWCC, James Vander Hooven, expressed his honor to be at the ceremony and spoke of the importance of such programs to help both the graduates and the companies offering jobs in these industries.
