Burlington to hold town shredding day

An official Town Shred Day will take place later this month in Burlington.

Only residents will be allowed to have their documents shredded; some means of identification will need to be provided. There will also be a limit of two Boxes of material per resident.

The office of the Town Clerk said that the shredded paper will be recycled and may also be used for composting. Folders, magazines, and any kind of paper except cardboard can be shredded. More information about such events can be made known throughout a town through the use of flyer printing.

The office added that shredding documents is important as this process can help prevent identity theft, can prevent fire hazards in the home, can create more space for storage, and can help the environment by reducing the number of trees that are cut down.

Documents brought to the event will be handled securely. Paper destruction trucks are sent to the Town Hall. There will be bins where people can deposit their documents. Each bin is lifted into the truck and then placed directly in the shredder. Residents can watch their documents being shredded on a viewing screen on the side of the truck.

Town Shred Day will take place in the back parking lot at Town Hall on Center Street on Saturday, June 17 from 9:00am to noon, or until the truck is full.
