A new facility that would bring state-of-the-art urgent healthcare to Burlington residents was recently proposed for Burlington's Town Center.
If approved, the center would take the place of the Gulf station currently standing at the corner of Terry Avenue and Cambridge Street. The plans for the facility were revealed to the Planning Board by the applicant, which is doing business under the Mammoth Acquisition Company, LLC title.
Mammoth's Michael Coffman said there is nothing similar to the proposed facility anywhere in the area. He went on to explain this urgent care center would be the first of its type in the state, noting that most such facilities can handle about one third of patients who seek care at an emergency room. The proposed Town Center facility, however, would be able to treat as many as 80% of those who seek help. The center's ability to treat so many patients is due to the fact there are ER physicians and nurses on site, as well as a well-equipped lab.
Coffman also said the center is much more reasonably priced as compared to an emergency room. Patients can have a procedure at the urgent care facility for $300 that could cost as much as $2,000 at a hospital. The Planning Commission will discuss the application again this month.
