Singer/sportswriter coming to Burlington

A musical baseball show with a difference is coming to Burlington soon.

Howie Newman is a guitarist, singer, and former sportswriter who once covered the Boston Red Sox. He plans to discuss what it was like writing about baseball, as well as singing baseball songs and sharing trivia about the sport.

His program also includes classics made famous by such artists as Doris Day, Neil Diamond, and Johnny Cash. Newman says that the sport of baseball aligns beautifully with music, making his show unique, and he is sure everyone will have a great time.

Newman has made two CDs, ‘Baseball's Greatest Hits’ Volume 1 and Volume 2, and they will be raffled off at the concert. The raffle is free, and so is the event for anyone 60 years of age or older who lives in Burlington or the surrounding area. Refreshments will be provided and are also free of charge. Events like this are perfect places for organizers to use banner printing to create decorations.

The songs that Newman has created on his CDs go beyond ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’. Volume 1 includes such numbers as ‘Utility Infielder Blues’ and ‘Wait Until Next Year’, while Volume 2 brings tunes like ‘Blasted in the Bleachers’.

Newman is performing at the Burlington Senior Center on Center Street, on April 8, beginning at 1:00 pm. The program is to honor the start of this year's baseball season.
