Burlington High School is gearing up to present its spring musical, and has picked a show to celebrate the changing seasons: ‘Pippin’.
The original production, directed by Bob Fosse, opened on Broadway in 1972, where it was nominated for a Tony. Although the show itself did not win, its lead actor, Ben Vereen, found his breakthrough role that launched a decades-long career.
The musical takes audience members to the medieval court of Charlemagne to observe the adventures of his son and heir, Pippin. The young man is looking for the secret of happiness, and tries to find it in various ways, from fighting wars, to romancing women, to plotting against his father. He succeeds in deposing his father, then discovers the responsibilities that come with leadership.
The show is filled with familiar songs such as ‘No Time at All’, and ‘Corner of the Sky’, as well as the iconic opening number ‘Magic to Do’.
The show will run at Burlington High School’s Fogelberg Performing Arts Center March 16 to 25. The shows on March 16, 17, 23, and 24 are at 7:30 pm, while the March 25 performance is a matinee starting at 2:00 pm.
Events like this can be even more fun if organizers work with a poster printing company to help advertise the show, which they can also sell.
