An Irish group will be appearing this spring in Medford, a short distance from Burlington.
The High Kings will be at the Chevalier Theatre to present a program of folk tunes from their home country. The group got its start in 2007 when David Kavanagh, who felt there was a need for a group that specialized in traditional Irish music, asked four musicians to form a band. The original members were Brian Dunphy, Darren Holden, Finbarr Clancy, and Martin Furey. The lineup today is the same, except that Paul O'Brien has replaced Furey.
Among them, the musicians play 13 instruments, and they say it was obvious from the first time they rehearsed in a studio and discovered how well their voices blended that they were going to create something unique. This idea was proven when “The High Kings,” their debut album, went all the way to No. 2 on the World Billboard Music chart.
By 2011, they were so popular they had to find larger venues to play in Europe and the United States, as well as Ireland. They have continued entertaining audiences with their different take on traditional Irish ballads.
A review of the group says:
“The High Kings always seem to enjoy what they are doing on stage and that permeates the audience. Great music, great voices, great fun.”
An Evening with The High Kings is scheduled for March 12, 2021, at 7:30 pm. Poster printing can be used to provide colorful advertising for this type of event.
