People who enjoy being outdoors have an event coming up near Burlington that should appeal to them.
Earthwise Aware (EwA) is a group that encourages average citizens to observe and document ecological communities. The data collected by the volunteers is shared with repositories, where scientists can access it for their work.
The upcoming event is a field session to orient newcomers, who will meet the team, and learn about the science programs run by the organization. Volunteers will assist the team to record bird movements, observe the seasonal phases of flora and fauna in the area, map the fragmentation of habitats, and monitor bio-pollution.
The pace of the hike is moderate-to-fast, although hikers try to remain as quiet as possible. Moving like this, they learn to remain alert and in tune with the environment, which allows them to discover the biodiversity of the area. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for participants in events like this.
The event will be limited to a small number of participants, and the organizers request that anyone who wants to attend confirm their attendance a week prior to the hike. If they do not receive confirmation, they will give their ticket to someone on their wait list.
The event is for adults 16 and older, as well as seniors. Hikers will rendezvous at Long Pond in Winchester, a short distance from Burlington. Participants should bring water, and wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Masks are mandatory.
