One of the best-known pizzerias in the United States, the Connecticut-based Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana chain, is getting set to open its second location in the Boston area.
The chain has chosen to set up shop in Burlington, in the Burlington Mall. The first pizzeria in the area opened in Chestnut Hill in 2015.
According to a statement released recently, Pepe's has been interested in expanding its brand in and near Boston, and had decided Burlington was one possible site to consider. The company kept fans abreast of developments, and has now decided to make the move to Burlington official.
New Haven is the site of the first Pepe's, which opened there in 1925. Connecticut is home to most of the chain's 10 current locations. The Daily Mail awarded Pepe's its “Best Pizza in the Country” award in 2017.
Ironically, the new pizza place will take over the premises in the mall formerly home to Uno Pizzeria and Grill. The Uno's being replaced was one of the first of that chain to operate in New England. It closed in January this year after a long run—it first opened its doors in the mid-1980s.
Pepe's has submitted its application to the Burlington Planning Department, which revealed the new restaurant hopes to open its doors some time later in 2018.
