Burlington public library focuses on survival theme

The Burlington Public Library is hosting ‘Burlington Reads’ for the month of March.

There will be movie screenings and book talks based on the theme of survival. The idea behind choosing a theme rather than a single book is that it enables both children and adults to read the Books they prefer.

The theme includes Books about war and its aftermath, natural disasters, the wilderness, and a difficult period of time. Using a theme also enables all age groups, including children and teenagers, to participate in the program. The library has created Brochures with information about the programs and events throughout the month.

The events based on Books will be talks where attendees can discuss the Books they have read that are focused on various aspects of survival. Multiple Copies of various titles have been purchased by the library and are available in the community at True North Café, the Recreation Department, and at Buffalo Wild Wings, as well as at the library itself.

Movie screenings related to the theme of survival will include ‘The Finest Hours’ and ‘Everest’.

There will also be programs held on Thursday evenings. Among those featured are Matthew Gabriel, who will teach basic survival skills, and Ian Banks from the Operations Systems Center of the Coast Guard, who will relate tales of rescues and survival handled by the organization.
