Burlington Public Library announces upcoming events

The Burlington Public Library has announced its schedule of upcoming events and is inviting everyone to attend. Among the subjects are the Tuskegee Airmen, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

The Tuskegee Airmen is the name given to a group of military pilots comprised of African-Americans. During the Second World War, they flew both bombers and fighters, and formed the 477th Bombardment Group and the 332nd Fighter Group. They were the first African-Americans to serve in the U.S. armed forces as military aviators. The talk will be presented by members of the Col. Charles McGee Chapter of the Tuskegee Airman, who are stationed at Hanscome Air Force Base.

A second discussion will be led by Dr. David Mischoulon, who is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital's Director of the Depression Clinical & Research Program. He will discuss Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a condition in which individuals whose mental health is normal at most times display symptoms of depression every year at about the same time, usually in winter. One of the most common techniques for combating SAD is with light therapy, and a lamp will be demonstrated at the library, and will be available for the public to use.

The talk on the Tuskegee Airmen is set for February 21, from 7.00 pm until 8.30 pm, and the SAD discussion takes place February 26, from 7.00 pm until 8.30 pm. Organizers of programs like this can use flyer printing to create handouts.
