Burlington helps out households with hazardous waste

For those items that cannot be disposed of in the usual household trash, Burlington has planned a morning for their pickup and safe disposal.

The community has scheduled a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, to be hosted at Francis Wyman Elementary School. Personnel will be on hand to assist with the activity, and there will be no fee charged, unless an individual is dropping off an unusually large amount of items.

During the event, Burlington residents can bring unwanted full aerosol cans, automotive products such as oil and car wax, used batteries of various types, fluorescent lightbulbs, pesticides, hobby chemicals, glues and adhesives, and many other products that require special handling. Propane tanks will be accepted, and a request has been made that sharp medical objects should be dropped off at one of the collection kiosks set up in local police and fire stations.

Publications prepared to promote this event stress that it is for Burlington residents only. A flyer printing company will be able to help spread the word about locally based activities in the community.

The Burlington Board of Health will be helping to make the city a little bit safer next Saturday, April 2. The collection station will be located at 41 Terrace Hall Avenue, and will be open from 8:30 am until 12:00 noon.
