Gong Cha, a bubble tea chain based in Taiwan, is planning on opening its third location in the Boston area soon, this time expanding to the suburbs—specifically Burlington, where it wants to acquire a space in the Burlington Mall.
The chain already operates in Chinatown in Boston, and in Allston. If the company’s application is approved, the Burlington location will soon be serving a number of variations on bubble tea, including milk tea, yogurt, latte, brewed tea, coffee-based beverages, and creative mixes.
Gong Cha—the name is translated as “tribute tea for the emperor”—was established in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 2006, and entered a field that is already saturated with competitors. Despite this, Gong Cha felt they could be successful if they offered fresh tea along with exceptional products and services.
The company’s policies have been successful, and customers have responded favorably. Gong Cha brews fresh tea every four hours, and cooks its pearls (the bubbles) every four hours as well. Tea is sourced from estates on Taiwan. The chain also offers unusual products, including a specialty called ‘Milk Foam’. The drink features fresh tea topped with a layer of lightly salted cream.
No opening date has been set for the new location, but when businesses such as this first open their doors, they can distribute Promotional Products to help build brand recognition.
