Annual festival marks founding of Asian nation

The annual Republic of India celebration will be held by the India Association of Greater Boston at Burlington High School later this month.

The India Association of Greater Boston, known as IAGB, is a non-profit organization in the community. According to Jayashree Voruganti, its president, the theme for the event this year is Indian folk art.

There will be colorful folk dances and folk music, and everyone in the community is invited to attend the celebration and appreciate the diversity of Indian culture. It is usually hosted by the IAGB with collaboration from Saheli, a support group for South Asian women.

There will be a $5 admission charge for nonmembers of the IAGB, and no charge for those who are members. Available for purchase will be food and vendors with a variety of items for sale, including arts and crafts. Information about services will also be provided.

The event will take place from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 30, and will mark India’s Republic Day’s 66th anniversary. The Association may be turning to several local Print companies to Print Flyers and mailers that can be distributed throughout the community to let people know about this special celebration.

Founded in 1962, the IAGB endeavors to bring a stronger presence and appreciation of the culture of India in the Greater Boston area.
