The Cabot Theater in Beverly will be hosting a screening of the silent film “Metropolis,” and an optional Roaring 20s party prior to the screening, as part of the theater’s centennial anniversary celebrations next month.
Venues like the Cabot might consider using flyer printing to attract people to special evenings such as this one.
The Alloy Orchestra will be playing the original score to accompany the silent film. The film, one of the first in the genre of science-fiction, is by Fritz Lang and dates from 1927. Stars in the film include Gustav Fröhlich, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Brigette Helm.
The orchestra began in 1991 with a new score for the film. It has worked with four different versions of the film over the years with the most complete version of the score and the film released in 2010. That year the orchestra was invited to perform the score and American premiere of the new restoration at the TCM Classic Film Festival at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
The VIP Roaring 20s party, prior to the screening in the Streetside Bar, features a speakeasy atmosphere with cocktails and appetizers. Those who purchase VIP tickets will have premium seating for the film screening. Guests are encouraged to wear their best attire from the 1920s. The party will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 24, followed by the film.
