What's Happening in Beverly, MA…

Beverly class teaches crochet basics

Crocheting is a pastime that keeps fingers limber while creating functional works of textile art, and a Beverly class series will introduce the craft to a new crop of needlecrafters.

Even if they have never picked up a crochet hook before, the five week long Beginners Crochet series will have those who take part learn the basics so they can get started quickly. The registration fee is $90.00 each, and everyone will need to provide their own materials.

The participants in the workshops will be taught the basics such as single, double, and triple stitches as well as how to read a pattern and how to choose the right yarn for a particular project. Those who are already working on a piece but are stuck can ask for advice, and everyone who registers will need to bring a single skein of worsted weight yarn in the color of their choice along with scissors, a size H crochet hook a pen and paper and a small ruler or tape measure. There are five installments scheduled.

A class provides a way for a beginner to get their feet wet, and it may also serve as a refresher for those who already know the basics. Copies of handouts and either learning materials for an activity can be prepared by print shops.

The Senior Center in Beverly, which is located at 90 Colon Street, will be running this series starting on September 10th. Each will begin at 7:00 pm.
