Non-profit in Beverly awarded funds to help the needy

The Neighborhood Assistance grant of $25,000 will be given to Green Beverly from the State Farm Neighborhood Grants.

Green Beverly was one of 200 finalists for the grant. A voting system was used to determine the top 100 finalists who would receive grants and Green Beverly was one of the organizations receiving the highest number of votes.

The goal of the non-profit is to re-purpose food that would typically go to waste using its food diversion project. Dean Berg, executive director of Green Beverly, said that this project will take food that would otherwise be wasted and turn it into high-quality food and distribute that food through the organization’s meal program partners. He added that the entire community of Beverly thanks State Farm for this support and recognition.

The amount of $25,000 will be used by Green Beverly to hire more staff and rent the transportation so that the food can be delivered to those in need. Poster printing can be created by local Print shops to enable such organizations to hire staff and gain access to other needed resources.

Green Beverly looks to help residents lead more sustainable lives by providing information and inspiration. The organization collects edible, excess food from farms, supermarkets, and restaurants in the area, transforms that food into fresh and nutritious meals for underserved residents in Beverly.
