Highland Electric Transportation has designated the Saf-T-Liner bus from Thomas Built Buses Inc. to be used to transport students in the fall who attend the Beverly Public Schools. This is the first all-electric school bus from Thomas Built in New England, and the first all-electric school bus in the city.
The buses will be powered by electric vehicle technology from Proterra and their 60kW charging system. A turnkey electric vehicle and comprehensive program will be implemented that will include charging infrastructure design and installation, charging systems, and the buses themselves.
Cities and school systems often work together with Print shops to provide printed materials with more information about such systems and their benefits.
The city; the school system and its transportation department; the local utility provider National Grid; Highland Electric; New England Transit, the local dealer for Thomas Built Buses; and Proterra have formed a partnership to use these electric buses within the operations of the transportation department.
A new business model has been formed in which Highland Electric will own, fuel, and pay for the maintenance of the buses, and the transportation department in Beverly will operate and manage the vehicles as part of its regular operations. National Grid is also working with Highland Electric to deploy a vehicle-to-grid strategy for the buses.
