The Cummings Foundation recently awarded a grant of $100,000 to Build Health International, based on Beverly, as part of its “$100K for 100” program.
Build Health International is a non-profit organization that designs and builds clinics, hospitals, and other facilities in needy countries for its non-profit partners. To reduce the costs of construction and enable funds to be used for additional needs and services at these facilities, the organization relies on donations of materials and equipment and tradespeople who volunteer their services.
Build Health International was chosen for this award from an applicant pool of 479. It will use the funds to set up a shop to repair used biomedical equipment. The refurbished equipment will be sent to and installed at sites managed by the organization’s partners.
It will also purchase a box truck so that it can solicit and manage donations of construction furnishings and materials from corporations in the area. The use of Posters and flyer printing companies may be one way that Build Health International can reach out to acquire these materials.
At a reception held on June 9 in Woburn where the award was given, CEO of Build Health International, Jim Ansara, commented that the grant will enable the organization to meet the demand for modern and used medical equipment in Haiti and other countries.
