The nation’s 250th anniversary is bringing a memorable collection of visitors to the Jefferson area later this month, as the world’s tall ships are set to weigh anchor.
The Sail 250 New Orleans event will begin soon as part of a nationwide celebration of the United States of America’s 250th anniversary, giving local families the opportunity to be immersed in the wonder of sailing ships. The Sestercentennial will bring a massive flotilla to New Orleans for a five-day visit.
With the ships will come a wide variety of events that are spread out across the five days, beginning with the Parade of Sail on Thursday, May 28. After the parade ends, the ships will dock and interested parties can enjoy public tours of the tall ships. The colorful impressions created with banner printing make for the ideal welcome for visitors at events like this when arriving at the host site or venue.
Tours will continue on Friday and Saturday, followed by a fireworks display. Sunday’s events will be centered around a seafood cook-off at the Spanish Plaza before the ship tours resume. The final day will feature the Blessing of the Ships.
The ships will be accessible at Goldring-Woldenberg Riverfront Park in nearby New Orleans. The festivities will begin on Thursday, May 28 and end on Monday, June 1. Admission to the venue and ship tours are free.
