What's Happening in Jefferson, LA…

November Community Day to be hosted at Okra Alley

Jefferson residents looking for an opportunity to make a difference and improve their community are in luck, as the November Community Day is around the corner.

The November Community Day, hosted by Okra Abbey, will bring area residents together to tackle projects and improve the surrounding area. The event aims to bring together Jefferson residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to connect with neighbors and learn new skills.

The community day will start with breakfast and coffee, with the food donated by November’s sponsor, Jefferson Presbyterian Church. After breakfast concludes, community member Billie Golan, the community’s lead gardener, will host the Garden Club to explain more about starting and maintaining a garden. Brochure printing is a handy tool to convey extra information to students and visitors to aid their learning experience and build positive relations.

Golan will also lead visitors through a vegetable gardening course, offering step-by-step instructions for an immersive learning experience. Participants can expect to leave with the knowledge to start a vegetable garden at home. The day will conclude with visitors and volunteers tackling community projects and putting their learnings into practice.

The Okra Abbey will host the community day on Saturday, November 9, with the doors opening at 9:00 AM and the activities ending at noon. Registration is free and available online.
