Jefferson workshop to offer support for future chemo patients
Staring chemotherapy can be a daunting prospect, but Jefferson residents who sit in on an upcoming workshop will be well prepared for this phase of their treatment plan.
Ochsner Medical Center is offering its Chemotherapy Class to help those with cancer feel well-informed and confident about starting chemo treatments. It will be a small group setting so that everyone will have time to ask questions, and a variety of topics will be covered.
The participants will learn about what to expect when they arrive for their infusions, and they will also be taught what they should bring along with them. They will find out about the most common side effects chemo can cause and how they can be addressed. Preventing infection and food safety will also be included, and the group will learn how they can recognize signs there is a problem with their treatment.
Each person who registers is welcome to bring along a friend or family member when they come to the workshop. Printed guides can be prepped for this type of activity by print shops, and these can be given to each participant so they can refer to them later on if they have concerns or need more information.
Jefferson’s Ochsner Medical Center will be offering this session on September 7. Its start time has been scheduled for 2:00 pm.
