Jefferson to help with local environmental project

A Jefferson area environmental service project provides a refuge for migrating birds and other wildlife, and it is counting on the support of the community to keep itself in top shape.

A Maintenance Day has been scheduled for the Fine Arts Woodlot that is located at 2000 Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans. All volunteer help will be appreciated, and the project runtime is three hours.

Helpers who come out will be tackling an assortment of jobs, including the removal of invasive, non-native plant species. This will leave more room and light for native species to grow and produce seed, which will provide food and shelter to an assortment of animals. Everyone is reminded to come dressed for the task at hand, and long pants, socks, and closed-toed shoes are all highly recommended. Everyone is asked to ring equipment such as clippers, a small shovel and a rake, and questions about the activity and the venue can be directed to 504-280-7153.

Many people would like to give Mother Nature a helping hand, and an organized service project provides a way for them to do so. Details about upcoming events can be spread to the public by using materials prepared by a poster printing company.

This hands-on morning will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 21. It is being hosted thanks to support from UNO Birding.
