Jefferson to get lowdown on garden pollinators
Butterflies are usually welcome guests in the garden, and a Jefferson area learning opportunity will make it easier to attract these pretty and beneficial insects.
Longue Vue gardens supplies the public with a variety of learning opportunities, and one of these will introduce the topic of butterfly gardening. The participants will discover how easy it can be to create a property that provides a home for pollinators, and both Longue Vue members and non-members are invited to participate.
The attendees will find out how to choose plants and other elements that butterflies find hard to resist, and they will also be taught how to create a landscape that encourages them to stay by supplying shelter and a place where they can raise a family. The importance of choosing native plants will be stressed, and when it is time to head for home, everyone will walk away with three of these plants to install in their own garden.
As well as the plants, every attendee will be given a list of butterflies and moths that call the area home, as well as the food species they need. Materials for a workshop can be obtained by contacting local stationery printers.
The staff at Longue Vue will be offering this instalment of its Garden Therapy Series on March 26. Everyone is asked to be on site by 1:00 pm.
