What's Happening in Jefferson, LA…

Jefferson residents asked to support local heroes

This September, Jefferson first responders are invited to be among the climbers who will ascend the equivalent of 78 floors to honor those who came to the aid of others at the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. They will also pay tribute to their local colleagues, and the public is encouraged to participate.

Police officers, EMS crew members, and firefighters will be climbing the equivalent to the highest number of steps that the first responders were able to reach on 9/11. Many will be wearing their full turnout gear the way their colleagues did on that day. While area residents will not be able to join in the climb, their support will be appreciated, and they can cheer the climbers on.

This event will take place rain or shine, and the climbers will be making several trips up and down the stairs at Poydras Tower in New Orleans. Each of the participants will wear the name of one of the firefighters, police, or EMS crew members who lost their lives in the rescue efforts.

The organizers of the event explained that it can be humbling for both the participants and the public. Banners and other signage can be supplied to a function like this by a banner printing business, and this can help to draw attention to cause.

This opportunity for area residents to show some love to their local heroes will be held on September 21. Its scheduled start time is 8:00 am.
